Things to do around Tamraght and Taghazout

Sunrise Surf House is in Tamawanza, a quiet clifftop neighbourhood of Aourir on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, between Agadir and Taghazout. It’s a working Berber village, not a resort strip: the beach is a 3–5 minute walk, and cafés, shops and surf are all walkable.

Surf spots

Surf schools in the area offer lessons for all levels.

  • K12 and Banana · Walking distance
Left and right point peaks, beginner to intermediate.
  • Croco and Devil’s Rock · Tamraght
A few minutes up the coast.
  • Anchor Point, Panoramas, Killer and Boilers · Taghazout and north
Points and reefs that work on bigger swell. Mind the rocks.

Souks and markets

Grocery shops are next door. Organic and specialty shops, butchers and weekly markets are in Aourir.

  • Souk El Had · Agadir
The big one. Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 9am–8pm; closed Monday.
  • Tamraght market · Tuesday
    Near the mosque.
  • Aourir market · Wednesday
    Fresh produce.
  • Anza market · Wednesday
    Produce, meat and second-hand goods.

Eating out

  • U Wood Love
Wood-fired pizza, on the main road between Aourir and Tamraght.
  • Ayour Beach
On the beach, good for a meal by the water.
  • Restaurant Albaraka Awrir
Slow-roast lamb and excellent traditional Moroccan food.

Getting around

  • On foot
The beach, cafés and surf are all walkable.
  • Taxis
They come to the door: about 4 minutes to Tamraght, 10 minutes to Taghazout. We share trusted taxi contacts after you arrive, and InDrive also works well for booking a driver.
  • Scooters
Rental shops are plentiful in Aourir, good for chasing different breaks.
  • From the airport
Agadir–Al Massira (AGA) is about 40–50 minutes by road. Take a grand taxi or a private transfer, and agree the fare before getting in; the small city taxis (petits taxis) don’t make the trip.

Good to know

  • Cash
Plenty of places are cash-only. ATMs are at the banks by the roundabout in Aourir.
  • Pharmacy
There’s a 24-hour pharmacy in Tamraght, with more along the main road.
  • Dress
It’s relaxed here, but longer clothing helps visitors blend in.
  • Ramadan
Eating and drinking discreetly in daylight is the considerate thing to do.
